Another commission based brief, this time from renowned bedroom furniture retailer Feather and Black, the brief was simple, to design a new iron bed for the “naughties”. The bed would then lead on to inspire the Caprice bedroom range (coming soon).
Roughly sand cast from hand carved wooden moulds, this bed utilises the skill base and technologies available locally in Vietnam. Solid, recycled aluminium, the organic qualities of carving the mould by hand are apparent in its tactile finish. The raw sand surface is left exposed without the need to intensively polish out allowing a more honest, warm texture, it is finally plated in Zinc and given the lovely grey-blue patina. This is truly a functional and yet sculptural, artistic piece, celebrating what is productively possible between East and West in our wonderful world.
